A few words about southeastern Crete from the retired professor of physical education Nick Aspradakis

Of course our region is not the miracle of nature, but a very beautiful town called Ierapetra

was built here 4.000 years ago and it has been inhabited eversince. During all these years a great civilization developed as archaeological findings that are found in archaological sites as well as in various museums around the world prove. Since ancient years the climatie was ideal for the creation of countless forms of sea life and othe4rs. The fossils give us the information about the environment they lived and they are very important because they are the base on which we can recompose the history of life on earth even though a lot of living animals and plants die without leaving traces of their existence.

Nowdays Ierapetra is considered to be the garden of Europe as thousands tones of agricultural products of the area go to the European markets daily. Apart from that the area has developed in tourism. There are beautiful beach hotels.

I feel happy to live with my family in this blessed place. My favorite hobby is hiking for 3-5 hours daily in the slopes and beaches of the area gathering fossil shells with the intension of creating a children’s museum of natural history in our town. That is the reason why they are not offered for sale. Reprinting of texts or photographs is prohibited.
